Background

I started using m0n0wall in 2005. After all of the poor quality commercial firewalls I had used, I was nothing short of amazed at how good this free software was! It was fast, easy to configure, full featured, and ran on just about anything! I loved it so much, that I spent quite a lot of time with another person making the captive portal WISPr compliant. WISPr is long gone now, and so is m0n0wall.

But, I still think there is a place for a small and lean firewall. One that follows the Unix maxim of "Do one thing and do it well." Something that can run on the amazing variety of low powered x86 based hardware available cheaply.

Apparently, I am not alone!
